Arsenal Win Liebherr Cup

Arsenal have picked up their first piece of silverware of the season (ahem) by winning the Markus Liebherr Memorial Cup in Southampton yesterday.  Arsenal defeated Belgian side, RSC Anderlecht 1-0 on a goal by Henri Lansbury & then drew with hosts Southampton 1-1 with a goal by Gervinho.  I know, I know, yes, the same Gervinho.  Well, actually maybe it’s not the same Gervinho.  Maybe this is a new scoring Gervinho but apparently he did sky a good chance prior to his goal.

Arsenal won the tournament following their draw with Southampton, with the tournament matches played as 45-minute halves,  as Soho had lost to Anderlecht in their prior match.  Despite having won the tournament with the draw, there was a penalty shootout with Southampton, which Arsenal lost, 5-4.  Man, nothing like mindless adherence to protocol, amirite?

Anyway, I thought there was supposed to be some highlights on YouTube but I must be stupid because I can’t seem to find them…

***UPDATEHere’s some video from Arsenal’s massive cup win…
