Within a span of 24 hours young German-born Turkish player, Nuri Şahin, was both coming to Arsenal & then not coming to Arsenal.  The young midfielder who has found minutes hard to come by since his 2011 move from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid, was initially heavily linked to Arsenal:

11.54 BST: Reports are gathering pace that Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin is on his way to London to join a Premier League club on loan. Arsenal? Tottenham? Here is his profile And we have the full storyhere

12.19 BST: With Sahin possibly arriving at Arsenal, Fulham are interested in signing Andrey Arshavin. A loan probably wouldn’t suit, as the Gunners will be holding out for Russian bids.

14.44 BST: Jose Mourinho on Nuri Sahin: “If there is an interesting opportunity to play elsewhere, he can leave, because he did not have minutes here last year.” Arsenal are now believed to the team in pole position to sign him on loan.

Before Arsène Wenger attempted to poor cool water on the possible move & being ever cheeky/evasive by saying:

“We did not sign anybody today, this report is wrong. We are not signing anybody at the moment – we are not close. In the future you never know.”

Traditionally, that kind of language from Wenger would probably mean there’s some definite interest in a move, possibly only a loan as the quote above states, but you never know.  Although in the case of Şahin there’s likely legitimate interest on Wenger’s part since he has tried to sign the midfielder before having interest in the player a few years ago.

Interestingly, concerning how the two players we have actually signed already, Olivier Giroud & Lukas Podolski, will fit in at the club, Wenger hinted at a formation switch back to the 4-4-2 which was phased out in 2006 during the Champions’ League Final run.  Le Boss cited Giroud’s ability to play well as a target type of forward who plays well by linking up play up top:

“Giroud is a different target man who would be more the player in a 4-4-2.

“He knocks the ball down, protects the ball well, makes play for his partners, and is a very intelligent player who has great physique, as well as being very strong in the air.”

Le Boss’ also intimated in the link the switch in formation by saying that Podolski will likely play more centrally for us, which also means he’s obviously thinking in terms of Robin van Persie leaving the club since RvP would be the 1st name penciled in the lineup at the central striker position provided he’s healthy.

In the Santi Cazrola news, we’ve apparently lodged a £16 million bid for the player to Málaga:

23.39 BST Arsenal have submitted an offer of £16 million to Malaga for Santi Cazorla and are confident of making him their third signing of the summer, according to the Guardian.

Right.  So if Málaga’s sudden financial problems are real, this deal should be done soon unless they want to be giant cock-n’-balls & hold out hoping somebody like Barcelona or Real Madrid offer €/£30 million or something.  When you allegedly can’t pay your players regularly on time, however, it would seem you would take the money & run, amirite?
