Or did I?  I had a spectacular time in San Francisco over the weekend with a 3-day sojourn to the Bay Area city.  It is a beautiful city that’s very European-looking with its structures built touching each other & built into the surrounding hills.  I had gone to see an old high school friend & his family & it was a fun-filled weekend for sure.

Over the weekend, yet again, the Santi Cazorla to Arsenal deal did not happen despite rumors that it was supposed to have been completed as early as last Tuesday but with Málaga’s daily financial circus, this deal may drag out for some time.  However, the BBC says, that Arsenal are set to confirm the deal.  Hopefully not at the end of the transfer window at the end of the month, amirite?

Meanwhile, one deal that did go through was Benik Afobe’s loan move to Bolton & it appears to be a season-long deal.  The young striker hopefully will get plenty of first team action for Bolton as they face life in the Championship.  Afobe said of his move:

“When I met Owen Coyle for the first time, he reaffirmed what Arsene Wenger had said to me. As I say, my mind was already made up, but having spoken to the manager and the chairman here, it only reinforced in my mind that this is the right place for me to be at this stage of my career and I am extremely happy to be here.

“The manager said to me that he likes to give young players a chance because they’re hungry and they have a point to prove. Those words have stuck in my head since and when I get my chance hopefully I can take full advantage of it.”

Hopefully, Afobe will have as successful of a loan spell as both Jack Wilshere & Ryo Miyaichi had in their stints at The Reebok.

And… what are we to make of the apparent news that Robin van Persie has made the trip to Germany for this weekend’s upcoming friendly against Köln?  If he’s going to be sold, it’s certainly an odd move since Arsène would have had his entire compliment of forwards at his disposal including new boys, Olivier Giroud & Lukas Podolski.  The new rumors are that van Persie may be staying but whether this means he’ll sign a new contract is still up for speculation.

Part of me says “fuck it, who cares if we lose him for nothing next year.”  He’d be 30 at the start of next season & his bargaining power would be fairly limited as most big sides would be really hesitant to offer more than a one-year deal to someone in his thirties.  So, if van Persie stays, you would think he would re-sign with us but again, these days, one never knows.  Perhaps Wenger can sign him two a two-year deal then a recurring one-year deal à la the deal we had with Dennis Bergkamp in his days with the club.

Finally, a very young Arsenal side (made up of mostly U-19s) defeated Chesham, 6-2, on Saturday.  Highly regarded starlets Chuba Akpom, Jack Jebb, Kristoffer Olsson, amongst others, turned out for the Gunners XI & put in a stellar performance although the cynical Arsenal supporter will point to the two goals allowed.  But, fuck that guy, you know what I’m saying?  Because I’m saying “fuck that guy.”  Because he’s an annoying pisser.
